The 2022 champman0102.net Awards
The time has come at long last...
The 2022 champman0102.net Awards!
First of all, thanks to all those who took the time to cast their votes for each category, it was good to see so many keen to get involved.
Reflecting on 2022, we've seen some highs and lows as always. Everyone who pulls together as a community in their various areas has helped in their own way to follow our motto which is simply - 'Keeping the Game Alive'. It's also that time of the year where we have a look at statistics. In the year since the last awards thread there's been:
Without further ado, let's crack on and find out who has won our categories for
The 2022 champman0102.net Awards!
Post of the Year
Previous winners: Insert Faces (Fods), Photoshopped Alan (Craig Forrest), Rant at Fods (Pasquale), Churky Makes Punishment (Pasquale), You may need some lube for that (colml), Gaffer's Alive (trunky), Patch 2.21.1+ v2 (saturn). ABBA's Penalties (Erkifino), Road to Glory (jokerjake), Creativity Bug (MadScientist), October 2021 Data Update (Dermotron/Update Team)
This one is usually wide open, with people often split between entertainment, insight or whatever else they like - and 2022 was no different. There were votes for trunky's heartfelt post in Immunotherapy, Xeno's explanation of Key Attributes, Zicko's idiosyncratic Skits, an unnamed post in Offsets and HaroldFinch supporting the creation of a women's database. But Dermotron and the Update Team retain their crown, with the
October 2022 Data Update!
Topic of the Year
Previous winners: Screenshots, "Are you fuc@ing kidding me?", FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, BABES BABES BABES (x2), Albert Van Bevan and the great Nigerian scam, Auction Fantasy Football Premier League Discussion 2016/17, The Alphabet Game #3 - April 2017 Data Update, CM Vipers (x2), Football Question Game
Everyone has a favourite topic - hell, there's plenty of excellent informative or entertaining topics throughout the forum. Last year's winner - Football Question Game - surprisingly failed to receive a vote, so it's there for the taking this year! American Football saw a couple of nominations, as did the October Update's Talents topic. Positional Penalty FAQs was also nominated, along with a perennial candidate in Nick's Patcher... but the topic that takes home the coveted 'Topic of the Year' is CMCZ's
World Cup Pool!
Best Story
Previous winners: Are You The Next - Series 4 (wato20), Are You The Next - Series 3 (wato2), A to Z (The Eejit), 25 Years of Hurt or Glory (Mark), Are You The Next - Series 5 (wato20), It's Fergie Time (The Eejit), The Pozzo Model (loyal_royal1), His Last Bow (samsami), The comeback of Samsami (samsami), The Return of the King (samsami), Reverse Grid (Kingsley), Hennes Weisweiler (Libertine73)
This award is usually hotly contested, with users entertaining other users with their excellent storytelling, and there were seven in the running this time around. The unfortunate ones to miss out on the award this year were:
Update Team On Tour... (SteveHarle)
The Sir Bobby Robson Story (AMC)
Hennes Weisweiler (Libertine73)
Coming Full Circle (samsami)
Like a Moth Drawn to a Flame (samsami)
Cold Rainy Tuesday in Stoke (ebfatz)
After narrowly missing out with two of his stories, the disappointment is short-lived as 2022's 'Best Story' goes to samsami with
Stopping the Yo-Yo Years! Keep those stories coming in 2023, folks!
Best Interactive Format
Previous winners: Dream Team League
Introduced last year, 'Best Interactive Format' remains something of a closed shop, with only Dream Team League (2021's winner), Championship Managers League and CM Forums United to vote for. They all received votes (as did Challenges, as someone maybe misunderstood the brief

), but it's Mark's
Dream Team League that takes it home again! It takes a lot of commitment to run these formats, so well done to both Mark and Spectral for keeping us entertained.
Best Newcomer
Previous winners: Nikolayov, wato20, Topofthekop, Royce Gracie, Ruben, faz44, Papalzru, PilgrimPete, GFRay, dweatherston11, James_y, Here2Win79
It's always great to see new faces arrive on a forum dedicated to an 20-year-old game and make themselves at home right away. There was certainly no runaway candidate in 2022 (no offence newbies), perhaps reflected by the fact that some of those nominated aren't newcomers! Theov, bsup86, FuddledFox, Zicko and l22677 all received votes, but the winner was
nikosgeo, who has got involved all over the forum, including Scouting.
Most Intelligent Poster
Previous winners: JohnLocke (x3), Tapani, Alan (x2), saturn (x4), MadScientist, Nick+Co
Probably one of the best awards to be nominated for by your fellow forum users, and a look at the list of previous winners shows it's a difficult club to break into! Any one of the the nominees would've been a worthy winner, with Xeno, HaroldFinch, SteveHarle, MadScientist and Andrea71 all receiving votes, but it's
Nick+Co who makes it back-to-back wins!
Funniest Poster
Previous winners: ozRooster (x2), Haniel, GoofyZ, Lee, Alan, Fods, trunky (x5), Here2Win79
Felix, evesham, Zicko and HaroldFinch were all put forward for this one, but sadly for them they stood little chance with
trunky returning to win it for a remarkable sixth time!
Top Chatter
Previous winners: Cam F
Cam F won this unanimously last year, so it was good to see the votes spread about a bit this time around. The reigning champ was one of those to be nominated, as were Felix, faz44 and HaroldFinch. So you've probably figured out by now that 2022's 'Top Chatter' was
Redknapp69!
Needs a Hobby
Previous winners: Redknapp69
I'm always at pains to emphasise that 'Needs a Hobby' is meant in good spirit and so hopefully nobody takes offence to their nomination - it's basically a replacement for the old 'Most Blatant Post Booster' category. There were nominations this year for Mark, HaroldFinch, reigning champ Redknapp69 and Here2Win79, but it's
Dermotron who takes it this year!
Member of the Year
Previous winners: Mark, Fods (x2), Craig Forrest, Beezer,Celtic1967, Dermotron, saturn, Redknapp69 (x4), GFRay
Another award that is truly a great one to win (or even be nominated for), it's pretty much a list of the best of the best of the CM01/02 forum. The unlucky ones to be nominated but miss out this year were Dermotron, SteveHarle, Xeno, Redknapp69 and scemoka as
trunky stepped in to win it for the first time - no doubt it'll look great on his mantlepiece alongside his Funniest Poster awards!
Hall of Fame Inductee 2022
Hall of Fame: BeezerCeltic1967, Dermotron, JohnLocke, Kingsley, saturn, Tapani, Nick+Co
TO BE ANNOUNCED - as I sort of forgot I needed to have this ready for this post
Thank you to those who voted, congratulations to those who have won an award this year and of course, a huge thank you to the rest of you who have been involved in some way at champman0102.net in the past year. Here's to seeing what 2023 has in store for us!
