Installing a Background or Background Pack FAQ
Installing a Background Pack
Have you followed the instructions to the letter, watched the tutorial video and read through the solutions provided below?
If these solutions have not helped you with your issue, please use this thread to report your issue and in order for us to help you, please be as detailed as possible! Once a solution has been found, we will add it to the Q&A's below for others who may encounter similar issues.
Q: My game seems to be really slow after downloading one of the bigger background packs?
A: If you have downloaded one of the big background packs, it's likely to be slowing your game down. The only ways to resolve this would be to use a patch that reduces the CPU usage to speed things up.
Q: I have downloaded the pack but some of the pictures don't seem to be showing?
A: Is there a mismatch between the database you have downloaded and the year that the background pack was released? For players, the date of birth will change each year in a database, so the pics.cfg file may be outdated. Likewise with stadium or club names, if these had changed, then they will also need to be updated in the pics.cfg file too.
Q: I cannot seem to replace the existing pics.cfg file with the one in my downloaded background pack?
A: Navigate to your Championship Manager's Pictures folder (usually located in 'This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Championship Manager 2001-2002 > Pictures'), right-click 'pics.cfg' and click 'Properties'. Within the option for 'Attributes', untick 'Read-only' and click 'OK'.
Q: Is it possible to have pictures from different packs?
A: Yes, instead of replacing the pics.cfg file, you simply need to copy and paste the text from the downloaded pics.cfg file into the one that lives in your Pictures folder (usually located in 'This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Championship Manager 2001-2002 > Pictures'). For example, you have already downloaded a stadium pack, but now wish to download a pack of national flags. Copy and paste the RGN files into your Pictures folder as instructions, but instead of doing the same with the pics.cfg file, open this up and copy the text under each section (such as [STADIUMS] and paste this into the relevant section (such as [STADIUMS]) in your current pics.cfg file that lives in your Pictures folder.
Q: What is meant by 800x600?
A: 800x600 is the default screen resolution of the game. However, the screen resolution can be adjusted by using the latest patch, but if you use this, you will not be able to use the background packs that have been designed for a 800x600 resolution.
Q: Can I make my own background picture?
A: Yes, you can. There is a guide to help you do this in the Technical Support and Tutorials area.
Q: If a pack is not available in a different resolution, can I convert it myself?
A: Yes, you can. You can use Picture Editor (1280x800) found in the Downloads area under Tools, to load your own pictures. You can follow the guide provided in the Technical Support and Tutorials area to help you.

November 2020 Update Background
Hi All,
I have downloaded the November 2020 update, which is fantastic by the way.
I use the stadium backgrounds with the November 2020 update cover showing in the background which doesn't look good at all.
Is there anyway to get rid of this?

Change background (nov 2020 update)
I have updated my CM0102 to the November 2020 update. Normally I have “change background” off. I don’t like the standard background of the update. How can I change it to the normal one?

November 2020 Update Background
Hi Alan,
I replaced the original default_pic.rgn with the one you uploaded but no success. The background hasn't changed. Also deleting the rgn file did not work. Do you have other suggestions?
I thought about playing with the piced.exe but its not in my main championship manager 01/02 folder.
Hope to hear from you(or anyone else that could help)

Background stadium images
You already asked this question (in the wrong place) and I moved it to the graphics forum.
Have you seen the downloads area? There's a section called background packs.

Installing a Background Pack
Hello.
I have downloaded this pack: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=867
I am playing with nov.20, nicks patcher starting the year in 2020.
I have a problem. Why is the stadiums of Nottingham Forest, Lazio and Roma not appearing in my game?
I look at the dates and I can see Shakhtar but not Nott. Forest and they are almost from the same period 6.0.4.20.
Do you have a solution to that? And how do I open the pics file? It is a internet explorer icon but my pc won't open it.
Kind regards Anders
